Solo show of Pierre  Segoh

31 PROJECT presents the first solo exhibition of the artist Pierre Segoh in Europe. 

 

Born in Togo in 1980, he lives and works in Lomé. Pierre Segoh is a painter and unfolds on vast canvases imaginary worlds in a luxuriant personal cosmogony where strange characters with zoomorphic heads, small beings barely sketched who move in all directions, giants with dog heads, skulls with gaping mouths, totemic symbols, cars, airplanes, buildings... and then this link that the painter always traces as a magic scroll, between each of his characters. 

 

Pierre Segoh has a graphic approach to painting. In love with the line and the motif, the density of his works offers a singular vision of the world, calling upon cultural references specific to the artist, while denouncing the economic, migratory and political problems crossing contemporary society as a whole.

 

A self-taught artist, Pierre Segoh has exhibited in Togo and internationally. In 2022 he exhibited at the Palais de Lomé and at the African Artists' Foundation in Lagos. He has also been exhibited several times between Ouagadougou and Lomé by the Goethe Institute and the French Institute. In Paris he benefited from a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts and showed his work at the AKAA fair in 2017. 

 

His works are present in important private and institutional collections, including that of the Fondation Blachère.
